Agnes lǎoshī’s pronunciation is very clear, and she helped us pronounce Mandarin words properly. I always found Mandarin pronunciation complex and difficult, but she made it easier and fun. I loved singing during class, which also helped us pronounce words faster. I can now understand basic conversations and a few lines from Mandarin TV dramas, and I hope to visit my friend in Beijing someday. Learning Mandarin under Agnes lǎoshī has been much easier, and I feel lucky to have her as my teacher. Laoshi, you are the best I’ve had so far, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours!

The Mandarin class with Izzati Laoshi provides a very fun and supportive learning environment, with people from different backgrounds and ages encouraging me to practice the language. One of the most interesting experiences was learning how to have proper conversations in Mandarin and actually practicing them in real-life situations. I’m slowly starting to understand conversations and gain confidence to reply and join in. Learning Mandarin has been challenging but fun, and I’m happy with my progress. The class is always interactive, with lots of ways to engage students, and the lessons are always related to real-life situations, which makes learning enjoyable.

I’m happy to learn new things with such a great laoshi, Ain Laoshi, and I always loved it when laoshi picked my name to read in class as it gave me the chance to practice my pronunciation. As a retiree, I enjoy learning Mandarin to spend my time meaningfully, and now I can even understand what the hero in Chinese dramas is saying 😁 Learning Mandarin can be quite challenging, but it’s also fun because I can use many things around me as learning tools. Thank you Ain Laoshi, you are really helpful and you make things look simple and easy.

I love how Ain lǎoshī handles the class in a fun and structured way, with a clear voice, always smiling, friendly, and using simple sentences that are easy to understand. Memorising the Self Introduction assignment helped me remember the dialogue and speak confidently in front of others. I can now say a few sentences in Mandarin and understand a bit when people speak it. The class is fun and challenging, and for the next level, I’ll definitely enroll in Ain lǎoshī’s class again because of the happy and friendly environment and her excellent Mandarin skills.

Supportive lǎoshī . Fatimah lǎoshī is always there to answer my questions, and both she and Angel Yeeling are super supportive, correcting me whenever needed. I really enjoy Gōngkè time and the role-playing exercises, they help me remember things easily. I can now understand simple questions, and although I’m still at an early stage, learning Mandarin helps me start understanding my clients and other Mandarin speakers. It is challenging, but with the support of laoshimen and classmates, I’m proud that I can construct simple sentences now. I would like to thank Fatimah lǎoshī and Angel Yeeling for their guidance, and Kent lǎoshī as well. I really enjoy learning with Agnes Laoshi because of her teaching methods and the non-judgemental classmates. I joined every Wednesday class and can now understand simple conversations. I really appreciate how Izzati Laoshi constantly checks our understanding throughout the class, corrects our pronunciation, and reminds us about tones while guiding us step by step. She always encourages us to construct sentences and gently corrects us, which helps reinforce grammar in a very supportive way. As an older learner, I used to be afraid of making mistakes, but KunKwan provides a safe and comfortable environment to learn from them. Even though the classes are online, they are still very interactive and engaging. The learning experience also reminds me of my Nihongo days, especially when memorizing characters, and I find it fun how Hanzi is taught in a more visual and engaging way. One of my most memorable experiences was completing an assignment where I had to interview a stranger, which turned out to be both challenging and rewarding. Learning Mandarin has helped me in daily situations like shopping or visiting the hospital, and I now enjoy understanding signages and picking up conversations around me, even though people speak very fast! Overall, learning Mandarin has been meaningful as it allows better connection and understanding with others in Malaysia. I’m also very grateful for KunKwan’s flexibility and support, especially during difficult times, and truly appreciate the dedicated teachers like Izzati Laoshi who make this journey so worthwhile.

I like that Ain lǎoshī always entertains my questions outside class hours, even on her day off, and responds with great explanations. For homework, I interviewed Chinese friends in Mandarin, and I also understand more while watching Chinese dramas. I feel proud of myself, doing something meaningful as I’m retired. One of my favourite memories was studying Mandarin with fellow Kunkwan friends at a cozy café, where we spent the day chatting in Chinese, laughing over pronunciation mistakes, and finishing our homework together, making learning feel fun and memorable. Learning Mandarin has opened a door to a new world, helping me appreciate Chinese culture more deeply and even recognize Chinese loanwords in Malay like “tapau.” As a Japanese speaker, it also helped me bridge language barriers at work, improving communication between my Chinese and Japanese colleagues. Overall, learning Mandarin has been incredibly rewarding as it broadened my mindset, boosted my confidence, and enhanced my career opportunities. The class with Minqi Laoshi is always lively and full of energy. We practice real-life conversations and role-plays, and she’s always willing to answer any questions. She knows exactly how to engage students and creates an atmosphere where there’s never a dull moment. One of my most memorable experiences was role-playing as buyers and sellers in class. It was both funny and challenging because I had to prepare a full conversation in Mandarin and really get into the character. I even used props to make it feel more real. Learning Mandarin has helped me understand simple conversations and feel like part of a team, which is important in our line of work. It also boosted my confidence, and I’m proud that I can now understand what my colleagues are saying. I’m really glad to get to know Bunga Laoshi. Her teaching is fun, and I can understand the lessons much better, xiexie! I can now speak a bit of Mandarin with my friends and understand some of the way native speakers talk. Learning at Kunkwan has also helped me enjoy Chinese dramas more, as I can now watch some without relying too much on subtitles. Learning Mandarin with MinQi Laoshi has been interactive, fun, and very supportive. Role-playing as a buyer or seller, making funny mistakes, and learning grammar, along with making new friends, made the classes enjoyable.
