I’ve got a very supportive and friendly Izzati Laoshi, and I can follow her teaching pace, which helps me understand and apply all the knowledge to complete my gongke. I can even use Mandarin in real life for small conversations with my friends. After finishing the CIC class, I can watch Chinese dramas and understand a little of the dialogue, which makes me excited to learn more. Learning Mandarin has improved my memory and focus, and even helped me heal from anxiety and MDD, as I took this class to improve myself and train my focus. It also helped me build confidence to have conversations with my Chindian friends. Overall, the journey has been meaningful, motivating, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. Thank you so much to Izzati Laoshi for encouraging me to join KMC, clearly supporting me in class, and being so helpful to new students. Her classes are fun and engaging. One of my favourite experiences was making new friends along this journey, supporting each other through challenges, and even taking the HSK exam together, which was a big moment for us. I love how Ain lǎoshī handles the class in a fun and structured way, with a clear voice, always smiling, friendly, and using simple sentences that are easy to understand. Memorising the Self Introduction assignment helped me remember the dialogue and speak confidently in front of others. I can now say a few sentences in Mandarin and understand a bit when people speak it. The class is fun and challenging, and for the next level, I’ll definitely enroll in Ain lǎoshī’s class again because of the happy and friendly environment and her excellent Mandarin skills.

I knew nothing about Mandarin at first, and I realized self-learning wasn’t enough. I needed a proper platform, which is how I found Kunkwan. I got to meet new friends from various backgrounds and laoshi who are very helpful and supportive. Learning Mandarin at Kunkwan is really fun. One of my most interesting experiences was an assignment that required speaking with a Chinese friend. I felt shy at first, afraid of making mistakes in pronunciation, but my friends were very helpful, correcting me like native speakers and teaching me new vocabulary useful for real-life conversations. I think Mandarin is very important, as China and Malaysia are trading partners, so learning it helps me understand conversations better in both business and personal contexts. It also helps me enjoy my favourite Mandarin songs more easily. I feel grateful to be part of the Kunkwan community and always look forward to the next class. I love the way Agnes Laoshi explains the lessons, everything is easy to understand. I managed to count from 1 to 10 in Chinese and memorized it. Since I meet a lot of Chinese speakers at work, learning Mandarin has become really important for me. I love the class and hope to become fluent in both conversation and writing. I also wish Agnes Laoshi could continue teaching me in the next level class!

Initially, I didn’t know what to expect, and thought online classrooms might feel quiet, but thanks to friendly Ika lǎoshī, we quickly opened up. The teaching pace was just right, and we had so much fun in the bargaining role-play. Even when I forgot a line, I could improvise, and Ika lǎoshī was patient and supportive. I can understand simple conversations if spoken slowly, and I hope to keep improving, maybe by watching Chinese dramas or taking the HSK 1 exam. Learning Mandarin can be difficult, especially online, but Ika lǎoshī makes it fun and encourages us to enjoy the process despite pronunciation or grammar mistakes. I really appreciate how Izzati Laoshi constantly checks our understanding throughout the class, corrects our pronunciation, and reminds us about tones while guiding us step by step. She always encourages us to construct sentences and gently corrects us, which helps reinforce grammar in a very supportive way. As an older learner, I used to be afraid of making mistakes, but KunKwan provides a safe and comfortable environment to learn from them. Even though the classes are online, they are still very interactive and engaging. The learning experience also reminds me of my Nihongo days, especially when memorizing characters, and I find it fun how Hanzi is taught in a more visual and engaging way. One of my most memorable experiences was completing an assignment where I had to interview a stranger, which turned out to be both challenging and rewarding. Learning Mandarin has helped me in daily situations like shopping or visiting the hospital, and I now enjoy understanding signages and picking up conversations around me, even though people speak very fast! Overall, learning Mandarin has been meaningful as it allows better connection and understanding with others in Malaysia. I’m also very grateful for KunKwan’s flexibility and support, especially during difficult times, and truly appreciate the dedicated teachers like Izzati Laoshi who make this journey so worthwhile.

The wow factor of the Mandarin class is that it can be done online and based on our own timing, so we don’t have to go to the centre and can choose a schedule that works for us. One of my most interesting experiences was taking the HSK 1 for the first time. Even with the mock exam during class, experiencing the real exam in Mandarin was quite memorable. I’m now able to understand some words in sentences spoken by my friends and connect the dots even if I only understand a few words, which motivates me to keep learning harder. I’m proud and grateful for the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers and apply my skills outside class, like understanding Chinese dramas.
