Agnes lǎoshī’s pronunciation is very clear, and she helped us pronounce Mandarin words properly. I always found Mandarin pronunciation complex and difficult, but she made it easier and fun. I loved singing during class, which also helped us pronounce words faster. I can now understand basic conversations and a few lines from Mandarin TV dramas, and I hope to visit my friend in Beijing someday. Learning Mandarin under Agnes lǎoshī has been much easier, and I feel lucky to have her as my teacher. Laoshi, you are the best I’ve had so far, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours!

I love how the module is arranged at a pace I can follow. Even with a busy work week, I can slot in this once-a-week 2-hour class, which makes me very happy. My first assignment with a native Mandarin speaker in Level A was memorable. I asked a colleague to be my partner, and she said my pronunciation was surprisingly good! I’m still a beginner and cannot speak or understand Mandarin fully yet, but I believe I’ll be able to once I complete the course. Learning Mandarin has opened me up to a new world and made me appreciate why Chinese speakers sometimes make mistakes in Malay. I now feel encouraged to make mistakes in Mandarin too as part of learning. I love how fun she is when teaching, and how she explains things so well with great enthusiasm. One of my most memorable experiences was taking the HSK exam for the first time and feeling so nervous, but everyone was very welcoming and never made fun of mistakes. I thought learning Mandarin would be stressful, but the class with Minqi Laoshi turned out to be really fun and engaging. The role plays and interactive approach made it easier to understand the concepts instead of just memorising, and she made sure everyone followed along, which really helped. I really enjoyed the systematic learning with Ain Laoshi’s clear teaching methods. The role-playing activities, like acting as a seller, made learning fun and practical. I’ve even started to enjoy Mandarin songs! Although learning Mandarin can be challenging, it’s definitely worth it. I knew nothing about Mandarin at first, and I realized self-learning wasn’t enough. I needed a proper platform, which is how I found Kunkwan. I got to meet new friends from various backgrounds and laoshi who are very helpful and supportive. Learning Mandarin at Kunkwan is really fun. One of my most interesting experiences was an assignment that required speaking with a Chinese friend. I felt shy at first, afraid of making mistakes in pronunciation, but my friends were very helpful, correcting me like native speakers and teaching me new vocabulary useful for real-life conversations. I think Mandarin is very important, as China and Malaysia are trading partners, so learning it helps me understand conversations better in both business and personal contexts. The wow factor of the Mandarin class is that it can be done online and based on our own timing, so we don’t have to go to the centre and can choose a schedule that works for us. One of my most interesting experiences was taking the HSK 1 for the first time. Even with the mock exam during class, experiencing the real exam in Mandarin was quite memorable. I’m now able to understand some words in sentences spoken by my friends and connect the dots even if I only understand a few words, which motivates me to keep learning harder. I’m proud and grateful for the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers and apply my skills outside class, like understanding Chinese dramas.
